There are many ways to tell if one is a gym idiot. For example, if you do chest and biceps workout everyday of the week, you are a certified gym idiot. This is because a basic rule in any workout program is to give the muscles some rest and time to recover. In doing the same workout everyday, you’re not only overworking the same muscles but running the risk of actually injuring these. And doing chest on Mondays and triceps on Tuesdays is not good either because this will essentially involve exercising the upper body muscles in successive days.
If you think that doing 300 pounds on a vertical bench machine is more impressive than doing 230 pounds of free weights, you are not only dead wrong but a gym idiot all the way. While it is true that you’re working a heavier weight, the vertical bench aids you in your efforts whereas in doing free weights, it is only one’s muscular strength that is relied upon. In short, free weight workouts are more difficult and demanding than those done with machine support.
Doing 45 minutes of cardio as warm up for weight training makes you a gym idiot too. The right warm up for weight training is about 10 minutes of light cardio exercises then doing some light weights – about 60 per cent of your workout weight – before embarking on the workout proper. Warm ups are necessary to prepare the heart, lung and muscles and loosening the joints for the rigorous work workout that will follow.
If you insist that you are cutting your weight but would not hesitate to order a Big Mac and upsized diet Coke from McDonald’s, then the gym idiot tag fits you perfectly. It simply doesn’t makes sense working yourself out to exhaustion to burn some fats then afterwards promptly replenishing the body with more fats from your favorite diet. The sensible thing to do is to watch what you eat and lessen your fats and calories intake.
These are just some of the things that make a person a gym idiot. If you’re a newbie guilty with some of the idiocy listed here, you can be excused. You’ll need a little time to learn these things. But if you’ve been working out for ten years and still do idiot things, you’re beyond hope.
